The Karate Kid (2010) Review

The other day I saw an amazing movie called Karate Kid. I will admit that I did not want to go see it because I'm sometimes not a big fan of just action movies. But, Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan did a great job with making this remake incredible!
The movie begins with Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) getting ready to move with his mom (Taraji P. Henson) to Japan because of a job transfer. Dre tries to adjust to the culture over there but gets in a rough patch with some of the boys at his school. One day, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), the janitor of his apartment building, protects Dre from the other boys beating him up. That's where Dre asks Mr. Han to help teach him karate because of a match between all of the boys.
The movie has a good concept with peace and harmony but to defend yourself as well. You see two sides of karate, which I like because usually you get only one side of a certain topic in movies. Jaden and Jackie are great together on screen when it comes to building a friendship and helping one another in their time of needs.
The genre of the movie is action but I do like how the movie does have it's funny sides and the small romance and the emotional parts that leave you tearing up.
For me, I got really into the movie and loved it! The whole audience (including me and my friend) were "yay"ing and "ahh"ing during the competition.
I give this movie a four out of four nail polishes! It was absolutely incredible and I wouldn't be surprised if one of the actors or the movie itself wins an Oscar!

True Blood--Season 3, Episode 2: Beautifully Broken

Russell Edgington (Denis O╩╝Hare), the Vampire King of Mississippi, concocts a plan to consolidate his power; Eric remembers his past; Sam tests the strength of his family bonds; Tara finds an ally in shady vampire Franklin Mott (James Frain). Written by Raelle Tucker; directed by Scott Winant. Synopsis from Gather

Honestly, this episode was okay to me, only because I was somewhat confused. Why did the wolves just suddenly pop up now? How does Bill Russell and his partner? Is it just common vampy knowledge? Does Eric have feelings for Sookie? I'm absolutely confused but another episode will come up next Sunday and, hopefully, answer all my dying questions! And, to anyone who did watch the last episode, that guy that Tara meets in the bar: Who is he? And, did they do something together? Or, did she just talk to him? (I didn't get a chance to watch the last ten minutes!) I will say that I'm missing Bill and Sookie's romance, I'm getting antsy with their seperation from one another! Eric needs to back off, he seems like he can be sweet but he's like the best friend who starts hitting on the girlfriend once the boyfriend leaves. And, I wonder what's up with this whole werewolves being commanded by a vampire. I'm glad Sam knows his family but I have  a feeling sommething bad is going to happen where he has to protect them. Lafayette's mom surprised me, I didn't know Lafayette's mom was in a mental hospital, or alive at that! I'm glad that he knocked some sense into Tara though and gave her that speech on how life is hard...you go, Lafayette! I can't wait to see how everything unfolds!

Here's next week's episode preview:

'I Love Your Blog' Award---June 2010 Winner: Twilight Lounge!

PhotobucketAs a TwiHard and a beginner in Deutsch, I came across a great website! Twilight Lounge showed up on my screen as I was searching through new Twilight websites to fawn over. Luckily, this one showed up on my screen and it was absolutely wunderbar! The graphics are absolutely incredible and the news stream is totally up to date! These girls have done a wonderful of giving a Twilight face to Germany and to the Internet. This is not only my first international site I'm giving this award to but this is the first website I'm giving this award to. These girls deserve an award for doing such a fantastic job with not only their blog but with their website and their social sites! Here's to you girls! Thank you girls for such a wonderful blog!
How did you come up with your blog?

i had a blog going on myspace so i was used to blogging twilight news but i wanted to go 'serious' and signed up on blogger.com
Why did you start your blog?
i'm a big twilight fan so i came up with my myspace twilight site (http://www.myspace.com/officialtwilightlounge). i was just browsing every day to read stuff about twilight and thought 'why not share your news'. and i started a blog because i wanted to keep all twilighters up to date with the latest twilight gossip. new pix and videos of course and i wanted to get to know some twilight fans even better.
What other blogs inspire you to keep on blogging?
there isn't really a site or a blog that inspire me to keep on blogging. it's mostely twilight itself.
How did you become a TwiHard?
i became a twi hard before the whole twilight mania started. i was browsing through amazon because i wanted to order a new book. and amazon recommended twilight. so i read it and fell head over heels for it. then new moon came. and one day i visited the official stephenie meyer site and she wrote that there's gonna be twilight the movie and after this news i went throught the internet to get to know something about the actors. and the rest is history ;)
Your blog design is incredible, what kind of work went into to make it the way it is now?
the layout for the blog was desinged by a very talented friend of mine. so it's self made.
What makes your blog unique?
my blog makes unique that it's a blog hosted by a german fan with international news. and there are many kinds of goodies that shouldn't be missed like ringtones and a very well stocked gallery. but most of all the internationality makes my blog special.
What will you guys be doing for the upcoming Eclipse premiere?
unfortunately there'll be no german eclipse premiere so we'll just post everything we can find from the other countries to keep u up to date.
Can people join your blog? If so, how can they apply?
oh i'd be happy if people wanna join my blog!! i'm always searching for people who want to desing something or help with the news posting. if they want to apply, all they have to do is send me a mail: mareike@twi-lounge.de
What is it like as a TwiHard in Deutschland?
being a twi-hard in germany is on one hand better cuz you don't have the rivalry between the other fansites but on the other hand we don't really get in contact with the stars. i mean we have a convention once a year 'ring con' and a dvd release party but that's about it. we don't have any premieres. and there's no real merchandise to purchase either. and i don't think many germans know about twilight in the first place. but i don't give up hope that we actually getting a breaking dawn premiere.
How do you keep up your dose of Twilight in your life?
my dose of twilight?? news, news, news ;) and watching/reading twilight, new moon, eclipse and breaking dawn over and over again. and of course a whole bunch of merchandise i get from my friends from the usa or i bought over the internet ;)
Why did you come up with the "Twilight Lounge"?
the name 'twilight lounge' just some day crossed my mind out of nowhere. i was sitting there and thinking about a name for my myspace site and i thought 'lounge' has something grown up and implicates a place where you can just hang around and relax.
Where do you see your blog in three months?
in three months i see my blog in a different design and probably more visitors each day.
Do you have any contests or giveaways going on in your blog?
the last contest for our 1st b-day is over but there'll be a new contest coming up where u can win a dvd from michael welch's new movie 'lost dream'. exclusive on my site!
What advice can you give to upcoming or inexperience bloggrs out there?
first of all get yourself everything about html codes! you have to know how to put images in your blog and how to give the right sources credit. the second thing is you HAVE to give credit when you post something from other sites, that is very important when you don't want to get into trouble. and the third thing: don't give up!!! in the beginning there are no visitors but you have to post anyway. you have to get your name out there that people know you exist. so create a myspace site so you can tell your friends about your blog. keep your post's credibility up. be always up to date. sometimes write something personal in your blog post. like when you post a pictures something like this 'oh isn't it beautiful. what do u think bout it??'. and you have to have fun blogging because it talkes a lot of time! but if you are a real twi-hard that's not gonna be a problem ;)

True Blood: Season 3, Episode 1: Bad Blood

Episode synopsis: Sookie (Anna Paquin) turns to Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) for help in finding Bill (Stephen Moyer); Andy (Chris Bauer) urges Jason (Ryan Kwanten) to stay the course; Sam (Sam Trammell) reconnects with his past; Tara (Rutina Wesley) seeks refuge from her grief. Source from DaemonsTV.

Honestly, I LOVED the season premiere! It started off the season at a good start. We start bringing in new characters (which are werewolves who apparently love vampire blood) and get some new drama right off the bat! At the end of last season, we see Tara's new lover, Eggs, getting shot by Jason who is covered up by Andy and Tara at the end of this first episode tries to commit suicide because of her strong grief. Sookie tries to find Bill with Eric (who doesn't help much) and Jessica because Jessica can sense Bill trying to message her through their minds. Meanwhile, Jesssica has killed a man and is trying to make up for it. Sam has begun his search for his parents and while sleeping one night, he has a dream about him and Bill, waking up before anything happens.

I love it! It was awesome the way it started out and I can't wait for next week! You can watch the show every Sunday at 9 pm on HBO!

First Two Summer Reads 2010

Over last week, I focused on gettting some summer reading done. I finished two very, very good books, look below to see my full review over them!

Tall, awkward Amy feels unloved by her parents, who are too smitten with each other to pay her any attention. Along with her beautiful, fearless, and free-spirited friend Julia, Amy turns to drinking and casual sex to feel loved. After a devastating car crash leaves Julia dead and Amy only slightly injured, Amy goes into rehab. There, a therapist gives her a journal, which Amy uses to write letters to Julia, each dated with the number of days after Julia’s death. Amy recognizes the privileges of her upper-middle-class life, and both mocks and indulges her angst. Reminiscent of both John Green’s Looking for Alaska (2005) and Davida Wills Hurwin’s A Time for Dancing (1995), Scott examines the complex nature of friendship between teen girls and clearly delineates the fine line between the strong emotions of the title. More predictable than Green and less cathartic than Hurwin, Scott nevertheless offers a satisfying story of an engaging heroine successfully naming and confronting her demons. Amazon

Honestly, I don't read many books like these^^. Not because they're usually sad, because they aren't all the time, but because I'm usually more focused on werewolves and vampires. I took a chance on this book when I grabbed this book though. I didn't know how it would be or if it would be any good. I'm very happy to say that it's a great book. Scott did an amazing job highs and lows of being a friend who lost another friend. Amy is very well done, she is lost, lonely, funny, and hopeful. Amy has a very good level of grief, lonliness, and hatred towards her friend, Julia. I did like how the book was all in first-person, it went from Amy writing a letter to Julia to Amy's life right now. Even though she is not physically around, Julia does develop into a character you are able to do what Amy does: Love her, Hate her, or Miss her. Personally, I kind of hated her because of the stuff Amy went through after her death, but I did also love her for becoming Amy's friend and saving her from the friends that would be...not nice to her. :) I give this book a four out four black nail polishes because it was a fantastic book and ended on a good note.

How can Christy Marlowe—an impulsive, wise-cracking horoscope-junkie—be in love with Ben, a well-mannered college freshman who prefers astronomy over astrology?
Their fateful first meeting takes place at a plastic surgeon’s office, where both hope to erase painful memories along with unwanted tattoos. Is it a bad omen that Ben has the same name as Christy’s ex-boyfriend, a drug-pedaling punk in juvie for murder? It’s hard for Christy to care when Ben sends her heart "racing through galaxies of bliss." Just as Ben is worried about Christy’s obsessed ex who’s back on the streets, Christy is troubled by the sadness lurking in Ben’s ice-blue eyes.
Burying the past isn’t easy and this comedy of love turns upside down when Christy and Ben become ensnared in their own lies. Starcrossed or starmates, can they forgo Romeo and Juliet’s tragic fate and find their way back to truth and trust? Amazon

I am going to outright say...I LOVED THIS BOOK! I am an avid reader and any other avid reader knows the feeling after you read an amazing book, you want a sequel. Sadly, there isn't one for this book but I'm still glad I read this book! It is witty, dramatical, and astrological! And, yes, I mean astrological! This is truly another version of Romeo & Juliet, and also far from it! Christy and Ben are both problematic, I won't say what their problems consist of but they are very...perfect for one another! I loved the twist and turns to the story and how fast pace it was! I especially love Christy's and Ben's undeniable love for one another even though constant situations arise! I can't get over how awesome this book is, I recommend everyone read this book! You will love Christy and Ben and their natural love for one another! I give four out four nail polishes as well because of...well, it's perfect!

Twilight Character Careers

This morning I got up and felt like a smoothie to start off my day, seeing as how my day started off at 5:00 in the morning and it is the SUMMER, I needed something to get me going. I met a friend up a downtown smoothie shop and as we drank our smoothies, we talked about an assortment of stuff: love, drama, MTV Movie Awards, and...of course, Twilight!

Kelsey: "Hey, did you ever think about what Bella would be doing if she went to college?"
Me: "Um, not really."
K: "She seems like an artistic type."
Me: *confused face* "What do you mean?"
K: "Like, she could be a writer or an artist. I don't know! I was just thinking out loud."

So, that is what I'll do for my post today. That is a good thought to think about, what would the Twilight characters be doing if they had careers? Well, I have picked out a couple of them and put down what I thought they might be:
I pick Bella as a writer. She's always deep and thought and can create very elaborate situations along with what will happen. She can shield her thoughts which is great if you're trying to keep a story idea under wraps.
Of course Edward would be a musician. It's in his blood. Plus, he has nusician fingers and those golden eyes can dazzle anyone (even the boys) to become a fan of classical music. I can hear the fans now "We love Edward Cullen!" Pictures of his face plastered everywhere and posters....or wait a minute, never mind. He already has fans who do that!
Alice will obviously be a fashion or interior designer. Her incredible sense of style and ability (well, it's more force) to have people wear the things she puts together can make her a HUGE star. And, apparently, she can draw like crazy (in the Twilight movie). So, she can create her own clothes and make a fashion line or design rooms for the starrs! Her line could be called "Ask Alice" (that reminds me, she can have a part time job as a psychic :] ).
I couldn't think of an exact career for Rosalie but I did come up with one that I think we can ALL agree on! High fashion super model! Perfect, right? I think Rosalie would do a fantastic job as a model, I mean she does have the top too three things you need to be a model: face, figure, age.
I picked Jasper as in ALL around trainer. Weights, defensive, karate, etc. He was a warrior and was in the army so I'm guessing he's alright to help people tone up. Hopefully, he'll modernize his ways but still, he would be a great trainer!
(maybe I shouldn't have used that picture...)
But, anyways, Jacob would be a car mechanic. (And, a schmexy one at that!) He can fix cars quickly and for money now! Plus, I can be smiling when I bring my car in the shop now! :) It all works out!

So, there's their careers. I couldn't think of one for EVERYONE which I'm sad about because I think we all want to see what our favorite Twilight characters would be doing in the business world. I would be sooo happy in this ^^ world though! A new song by Edward playing on the radio as Jacob's fixing my car and I'm reading a book by Bella while I'm wearing an outfit Alice deisgned that Rosalie modeled. I just need someone to make my banana strawberry smoothies and then that world sounds PERFECT!!!!

Peace and Fangs,
Alisha

Books I'm Reading For This June

For this June, I've checked out a few books I'll be reading for this month. One of the books I have to read for my English class next year and I have heard great things from my sister and my dad who also read the book when they were in school.

Set in the small Southern town of Maycomb, Alabama, during the Depression, To Kill a Mockingbird follows three years in the life of 8-year-old Scout Finch, her brother, Jem, and their father, Atticus--three years punctuated by the arrest and eventual trial of a young black man accused of raping a white woman. Though her story explores big themes, Harper Lee chooses to tell it through the eyes of a child. The result is a tough and tender novel of race, class, justice, and the pain of growing up.

When Kaylee Cavanaugh screams, someone dies. So when teen pop star Eden croaks onstage and Kaylee doesn't wail, she knows something is dead wrong. She can't cry for someone who has no soul. The last thing Kaylee needs right now is to be skipping school, breaking her dad's ironclad curfew and putting her too-hot-to-be-real boyfriend's loyalty to the test. But starry-eyed teens are trading their souls: a flickering lifetime of fame and fortune in exchange for eternity in the Netherworld—a consequence they can't possibly understand. Kaylee can't let that happen, even if trying to save their souls means putting her own at risk….

Fans of The Twilight Saga will be enthralled by this riveting story of Bree Tanner, a character first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the newborn vampire world she inhabits. In another irresistible combination of danger, mystery, and romance, Stephenie Meyer tells the devastating story of Bree and the newborn army as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion.
Those are the books I'll be reading for this June, I've already started on Love You Hate You Miss You, it is good so far. Two books I know I'll be reading in July are Jekel Loves Hyde and Spirit Bound which is in the Vampire Academy series.
