Book Blog Hop: Oct. 29-Nov. 1

Book Blogger Hop
The Book Blogger Hop is a little activity each week by Crazy For Books where book blogs answer a question and share it on their blog. They submit their blog into the roster and look around at other blogs that are just like them or are a new type of book blog to check out!

This week's question is:

"What is the one bookish thing you would love to have, no matter the cost?"

My answer: I would like a few things. I want a Kindle that is already equipped with all the books I would love to read. (Sort of like TiVo for books.) Or, I would love a giant bookshelf that organizes itself whenever I put a new book on the shelf. Or, something like a Borders card where all you have to do is present it to the cashier and you get free books. (I know I'm thinking way outside the box, but who wouldn't want a free book card???)
Give me your answers and I automatically out any blog that visits BNR on to the Book Blog Hop Buddy List!

Peace and Fangs,
Alisha

FALLEN by Lauren Kate Review

Reading Level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 464 pages
Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers
Published: Dec. 8, 2009
Language: English

Synopsis: Some Angels are Destined to Fall

There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce–and goes out of his way to make that very clear–she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her. Source

Review: Earlier, Blancy reviewed about this book, so check it out here if you want to see both of our's! But, first off I want to say that this book was AH-mazing! It took me about three weeks to read it because of all the schoolwork I had, but I finally completed it. All I can say is that I want more!

The book starts out interesting right off the bat. Luce is sent to boarding school after a freak incident that she is accused for doing. Her first day is nothing short of boring and we meet everyone that will be throughout the book soon.
Speaking of the characters, I have to say that these are some of the best characters I have ever read. They each seem to bring out a different aspect to the book, including the love interests. I like how Luce isn't seen as the most perfect girl but also not the worst girl in the world. She seems to mature and understand herself and the people as I got further and further into the book. I liked Luce because she wasn't too naive but she wasn't denying that some of what was going on had to be because of something unearthly.

Along with the characters, I loved the first part of the book where we look back to the past. When you first read it, you are a little confused but you know that this connects with the rest of the book as you read on.

All in all, I loved this book and I know you will love the climax. It leaves you wanting more and having more questions that you know have to be answered. I will say that if you love dark romance, I would read this book. I gave it a chance because my sister bought it for me and I have been hearing a lot of good things and anticipation for the sequel from different paranormal blogs. So, hear is another book blog saying "READ THE FALLEN!"

I give this book a four out of four for AH-mazing characters, plot, romance, horror, and writing!

P.S. Additional news for the FALLEN is that the sequel, TORMENT, is already on shelves and there is talk for FALLEN to be made into a movie. Disney has the rights I think. Again, not a big fan of a book like this to be made by Disney. (Just my opinion.)
Peace and Fangs,
Alisha

Ghost Town Review

So I just wrote a review about this new book, Ghost Town by Rachel Caine, but I read it so now it's my review on the book!

"While developing a new system to maintain Morganville's defenses, student Claire Danvers discovers a way to amplify vampire mental powers. Through this, she's able to re-establish the field around this vampire-infested Texas college town that protects it from outsiders.
But the new upgrades have an unexpected consequence: people in the town begin to slowly forget who they are- even the vampires. Soon, the town's little memory problem has turned into a full-on epidemic. Now Claire needs to figure out a way to pull the plug on her experiment - before she forgets how to save Morganville..."

Doesn't it sound AWESOME?? Well, it is! I just finished reading this book about... two days ago. It took about half that to read it. Once I picked it up, I didn't want to stop reading it! I say that about almost every book I read, right? Well, this was good!

Claire is forced to build a new machine under TONS of pressure. After awhile, she realizes her machine has caused minor problems... the memory wiping kind! Soon, even her best friends don't remember her. I know, your just wondering about one person... does Shane even forget her?? Read to find out!

I would rate this book 4 out of 4. (And yes, if I ever find a book I don't like, I am capable of giving it a small amount of nail polish bottles.) Well, definitely add this to your "need-to-read" list!
Sweet Daydreams,
Brooke

Wings Review

Author: Aprilynne Pike
Language: English
Publisher: Harper Teen (US)
Published: May 5, 2009
Edition: Hardback
Pages: 290
Synopsis: "Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful—too beautiful for words.

Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.

In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever." Goodreads

Review: I read this book awhile back ago and am finally getting around to review it. I have to say that I absolutely fell in love with this book. I loved the romance and slow progression to the climax of the book. There are a few things that had me, how should I say, doubtful. My first thought when reading it was that it reminded me way too much of Twilight. She moves to a new city where she tries to adjust to a new social life and meets a boy in Biology and, of course, he takes an interest in her. I was also noticing the love triangle starting to form between three

characters sort of abruptly. One minute we see Laurel totally into David, next minute she's thinking of a new character who she barely knows but somewhat remembers him from somewhere. The story was original in it's own way but there was too many elements I saw that were from other books.

I did, however, like the characters. They were very realistic in a fantasy. I especially love David and Laurel's relationship. It seemed like they wanted to be together but things were pushing them apart and both of them could see that. I loved how Laurel still kept her feelings known about David even when she was swaying back and forth between him and someone else. She didn't lose her feelings for him once a new cutie came along or used him for her own gain. David was also on my good list because of his sacrifices for Laurel whether they were big or small, he always stayed contempt about how he felt about Laurel, and didn't let anything get in the way of him helping her.

I give this book a good three out of four because of the beautiful romance and realism, along with the gradual progression in the book where it was slow enough to follow but fast enough to not bore you. I did need more originiality in the book, but overall it is a great read for anyone interested in faeries or fantasy romance.

The sequel to Wings, Spells, has been released and Illusions is set to release on May 3, 2011! There is also talk of Wings being sold to Disney to be made into a movie. I'm all for having the movie but not with Disney, I don't like how they clean up the movies.

Alisha

Paranormal Activity 2 Review

Release: Oct. 22, 2010 (Wide)
Rated: R

Running Time: 91 minutes
Director: Tod Williams
Starring: Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Brian Boland, Sprague Grayden, Molly Ephraim, Tim Clemens
Preceded: Paranormal Activity
Synopsis: "After experiencing what they think are a series of "break-ins", a family sets up security cameras around their home, only to realize that the events unfolding before them are more sinister than they seem." IMDb

Review: I saw this at the midnight premiere and I have got to say that this is hands down one of the scariest movies of the year. I don't know if many of you are like me, but I am a type of person who loves the suspense and actual horror, not really keen on the gore aspects. (Yes, I am talking to you, Hostel and Saw!) And, sadly, paranormal stuff freaks me out because unlike Jason or Freddy, you don't know when that stuff will come and what it will do. So, Paranormal Activity scared me for weeks and Paranormal Acitvity 2 did the same.

I liked this one a tiny bit better because it wasn't a sequel, it was prequel. It is set 60 days before Katie's, um, situation happened. We meet Katie's sister, her husband, her stepdaughter, and their baby boy, Hunter. They have bought a new house not too far from where Katie and Micah live. I liked the fact that we see their story because it somes up a lot of questions you had in the first movie about what is happening and what happened to Katie.

I loved the stepdaughter out of the whole cast, she stole the whole thing. She will be a great new and upcoming actress but made the movie more believable. I won't give away too much but I loved her in the part with the Oujji board.

For this movie, I can't say too much without giving away anything but this movie is very high on the suspense scale. However, I will say that it was not as good as the first. The first had things in it that most of the audiences haven't seen before but PA 2 seemed like they took stuff from what happened in the first and just made it happen to the characters in the second. I do kind of see where they are coming from because it is the same demon doing that to both of the families but the demon needs to mix it up once in awhile.

I give this movie a three out of four because of the suspense and thriller but I have to make it lose a nail polish because of the lack of originality.

P.S. I read an article saying that there might be a PA 3D next year. They also said that it might be like Saw and have a new movie released every year around Halloween until people get tired of it, like Paranormal Acitivty: The Next Generation and so on. But, hopefully, in Paranormal Activity 3D, we get to see a continuation of the story we have been following.

Peace and Fangs,
Alisha

Vampire Diaries--Season 2, Episode 6: "Plan B"

Okay, so this took me awhile to work up to say because I can't believe I did this. So, I kinda....missed this week's episode. I know, I know...I'm a horrible VD fan. It wasn't any better that the reason why I missed the episode was because I was watching Fast Food Nation! But, I grabbed the recap over at HitFix for you all to read. I didn't want you guys to be bored and I wanted to make up for what I did, so I put out some bullet points from the recap to catch you guys (and me) up for next week!
  • The beginning starts with Elena and Stefan doing the morning after ritual while Katherine and Mason do the same. (That relationship still gets under my skin)
  • Jeremy offers Damon some help to get rid of Katherine
  • Again with another event (really, Mystic Falls?!), the masquerade is being prepared at the Lockwoods'
  • Stefan and Damon ask Bonnie to capture Mason
  • Caroline talks to her mom but compels her and makes her forget what Caroline really is
  • Damon kills Mason when he says that Katherine loves him
  • Stefan finds the moonstone in a well but passes out because of the fact it is filled with vervain, Elena ends up retrieving the stone
  • Jenna is found to be working for Katherine and stabs herself when Katherine is talking to Elena over the phone (creepy!)
  • Elena breaks up with Stefan
  • Matt is told by Katherine to deal with Tyler but Tyler soon kills him (NOOOO!)
I guess it's werewolf time for Tyler, Stefan and Elena are really over, Mason's dead, and there will be a lot of sh*t going down for next week's episode at the masquerade! Can't wait! Tell me what you think of this week's episode and what you can't wait for in next week's!

Peace and Fangs,
Alisha

Beautiful Darkness Review

What would you do if one choice marked you forever? If one decision could kill the ones you love? In Beautiful Darkness, the sequel to Beautiful Creatures, Lena Duchannes has to make that decision.

"Together, they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened up to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems."

When I first picked up this book, I could not put it down! I have been busy with my life lately, but any free time I had anyone could see me with this book in my hand. As the story progresses, you see Lena start to pull away from Ethan more and more until Ethan is desperate. Lena feels as though she is Dark, though she has not technically been claimed.

This book takes you twists, turns, surprises, feelings of sadness, happiness, and more! I rate this book four out of four! It is not difficult to understand, and was better detailed and explained than the first. Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl did an amazing job with this one. Even when you think everything is resolved, the last thirty pages hold surprises I didn't even think about! If your looking for the next book to read, Beautiful Creatures is what I would recommend to everyone!

THE AMAZON COVEN
  • The Amazon Coven is comprised of Tracey Heggins as Senna and Judi Shekoni as Zafrina.
  • Among the oldest vampires in the world, Senna and Zafrina are descendants of an ancient Amazonian tribe. They have lived outside of civilization for centuries and therefore make no attempt to keep up a human facade. Though they drink human blood, the Amazons have long been allies of Carlisle.
THE EGYPTIAN COVEN
  • Omar Metwally (RENDITION, MUNICH) as Amun.
  • Andrea Gabriel (Lost, House) as Kebi.
  • Rami Malek (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM) as Benjamin.

The Egyptian Coven consists of Amun, Kebi, Benjamin, and Tia, with Amun as the leader. It is stated that even though they are not a biological family, they could pass for one. Amun is extremely protective of his family and fearful of Aro.
THE IRISH COVEN
  • The Irish Coven is comprised of Marlane Barnes (THE TREE OF LIFE) as Maggie, Lisa Howard as Siobhan and Patrick Brennan as Liam.
  • The Irish Coven, a relatively young group, was founded by Siobhan and Liam, but Maggie’s talent made her an important element of it. They are not vegetarian but they are civilized.
THE ROMANIAN COVEN
  • The Romanian Coven is comprised of Noel Fisher (THE PACIFIC, FINAL DESTINATION 2) as Vladimir and Guri Weinberg (MUNICH) as Stefan.
  • The Romanian Coven is one of the oldest covens in the world and they were the ruling vampire family until they were unseated by the Volturi. For that reason they harbor a centuries old resentment of the Italian coven.

  • Toni Trucks (MUSIC AND LYRICS) as Mary.
  • Bill Tangradi (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) as Randall.

Though not a vegetarian, Garrett is among Carlisle’s closest and oldest friends.
  • Mary and Randall are American nomadic vampires.
  • Peter and Charlotte are nomadic vampires and mates. They were created during the aftermath of the Southern Vampire Wars, in which Jasper was a key player. They have remained friends with Jasper ever since.
THE EUROPEAN NOMADS
  • The European Nomads are comprised of Joe Anderson (THE CRAZIES) as Alistair
A nomadic vampire from England, Alistair has a misanthropic, brooding personality and a deep mistrust of all authority. Although he counts Carlisle as his closest acquaintance, he doesn’t visit more than once a century.

Crescendo

For those of you who have read the young adult book "Hush, Hush", you are going to love what's coming next!

"Nora should have known her life was far from perfect. Despite starting a relationship with her guardian angle, Patch (who, title aside, can be described as anything but angelic), and surviving an attempt on her life, things are not looking up. Patch is starting to pull away and Nora can't figure out if it's for her best interest or if her interest has shifted to her arch-enemy Marcie Millar (OMG!). Not to mention that Nora is haunted by images of her father and she becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened that night he left for Portland and never came home.
The farther Nora delves into the mystery of her father's death, the more she comes to question if her Nephilim blood line has something to do with it as well as why she seems to be in danger more than the average girl. Since Patch isn't answering her questions and seems to be standing in her way, she has to start finding the answers on her own. Relying too heavily on the fact that she has guardian angles puts Nora at risk again and again. But can she really count on Patch or is he hiding secrets darker than she could ever imagine?"
Oh. My. Goodness! Doesn't that make you want to read it. Every time a new book from a series that I have read (I have a list. Can you believe I have read about 30 series that I keep track of the upcoming books?) I think, "Oh, another one. I can't wait." But, I'm not as excited. The second I read what the new one is about, I suddenly am wish it is already tomorrow! Yes, this amazing new book comes out October 19, Tuesday! Now, if you have a nook like yours truly, than you could buy it right away! (Or as soon as Barnes and Nobles updates their site *sigh*) But, if you don't, make sure to drive to the closest store ASAP! Have fun!
Sweet Daydreams,
Brooke

Wanted Wedensdays: The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong

Hey, readers! I haven't been here for two weeks I think. (Well, on Wanted Wedensdays...) But, I'm back and here to share my newest obsession. Yes, I am talking about The Darkest Powers series. If you've been with me since the start, you know I've been obsessing about this series since I saw it on the shelf at the library. Of course I couldn't get it because bookaholic Alisha had five books in my arms already. I told myself I would get the first book after I finished the stack of books I got, but sad to say, it was no longer there. Every time I would see it in my school's library or somewhere else, I was always reading another book and couldn't grab it when I wanted.

Here is a quick synopsis of The Summoning:
After years of frequent moves following her mother’s death, Chloe Saunders’s life is finally settling down. She is attending art school, pursuing her dreams of becoming a director, making friends, meeting boys. Her biggest concern is that she’s not developing as fast as her friends are. But when puberty does hit, it brings more than hormone surges. Chloe starts seeing ghosts–everywhere, demanding her attention. After she suffers a breakdown, her devoted aunt Lauren gets her into a highly recommended group home.

At first, Lyle House seems a pretty okay place, except for Chloe’s small problem of fearing she might be facing a lifetime of mental illness. But as she gradually gets to know the other kids at the home–charming Simon and his ominous, unsmiling brother Derek, obnoxious Tori, and Rae, who has a “thing” for fire–Chloe begins to realize that there is something that binds them all together, and it isn’t your usual “problem kid” behaviour. And together they discover that Lyle House is not your usual group home either… Source

So, finally with some orange juice in hand, I was scrowling around looking for ANY Darkest Powers giveaways, but came up with none. After I finished FALLEN and Blue Bloods, you will definitely see me with The Summoning next to my orange juice!

The Gathering will be out in April, 2011! IF anybody read this series or just The Summoning so far, tell me how it was!

Peace and Fangs,
Alisha

REVIEW: MERIDIAN

What if going to the light meant going through a girl? What if you were that girl? Meet Meridian.. a Fenestra.. a Window to the Afterlife… Dark, lovely, and lushly romantic, Meridian will entrance readers.

Synopsis:

Meridian has always been and outcast. It seems that wherever she goes, death and grief follow. On her sixteenth birthday, a car crashes in front of her family’s home- and though she’s untouched, Meridian’s body explodes in pain.

Before she can fully recover, Meridian is told that she’s a danger to her family and is hustled off to her great-aunt’s house in Revelation, Colorado. There she learns the secret her parents have been hiding for her entire life: Meridian is a Fenestra, the half-angel, half-human link between the living and the dead.

It’s crucial that Meridian learn how to transition human souls to the afterlife- how to help people die. Only then can she help preserve the balance between good and evil on earth. But before she can do that, Meridian must come to terms with her ability, outsmart the charismatic preacher who’s taken over Revelation, and maybe- if she can accept her sworn protector, Tens, for who he is- fall in love. Meridian and Tens face great danger from the Aternocti, a band of dark forces who capture vulnerable souls on the brink of death and cause chaos. But together, they have the power to outsmart evil.”

This book isn’t really in my fallen angels’ category because she is a girl born from a human mother and father, so Meridian does not qualify in that category at all. The book was original in every sense of the word due to its rapidly dramatic start and the “hide & seek” mystery information Amber Kizer throw at you through out the whole book. The plot of the story is about a girl finding her self and the role she plays in the world. I found it to be an old steady plot but one that is universally understood by everyone. The Fenestra (Window to the Afterlife) essence was one that I found to be an almost human and believable. I give Kizer two thumbs up for it.

Meridian’s ancestry was completely fascinating to me. The romance between Meridian and Tens was one that happens every day but Kizer still keep it fresh. I was surprise to find a new band of villains that I heated and feared more then the “Volturi”. The Aternocti were bad to the bone quit literally. The main thing that I like about this book was its human aspects with in its fantasy realm. The other was that Meridian is a “Shorty” just like me and Tens in his “Tall as a skyscraper” height is still in love with her. Two Thumbs way.. way up for Kizer from all us “Shorty”. In the end I would give this book a three out of four nail polishes because it doesn’t built up to things it just rushes into them, but still a good read.

In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history... but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications

Every age has its visionaries who leave, in the wake of their genius, a changed world - but rarely without a battle over exactly what happened and who was there at the moment of creation. The Social Network explores the moment at which Facebook was invented -- through the warring perspectives of the super-smart young men who each claimed to be there at its inception. The film moves from the halls of Harvard to the cubicles of Palo Alto to capture the heady early days of a culture-changing phenomenon in the making -- and the way it both pulled a group of young revolutionaries together and then split them apart. In the midst of the chaos are Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg), the brilliant Harvard student who conceived a website; Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield), once Zuckerberg's close friend, who provided the seed money for the fledgling company; Napster founder Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake) who brought Facebook to Silicon Valley's venture capitalists; and the Winklevoss twins (Armie Hammer and Josh Pence), the Harvard classmates who asserted that Zuckerberg stole their idea and then sued him for ownership of it. Each has his own narrative, his own version of the Facebook story in this multi-level portrait of 21st Century success - both the youthful fantasy of it and its finite realities as well.

My Review:
"The Social Network" was an incredibly engaging film that, while mainly revolving around the invention of Facebook (and all the problems that the creators encountered both before and after all was said and done), really focused in on ideas and feelings that can be (and are) universally felt through all people, the primary example being trying to fit in. Everyone wants to be accepted (I for one have never met a single human being that has wanted to be a loner), and some will do whatever it takes to get that sort of attention (which tends to lead into bad consequences). In a year where movies have received some of the lowest critical ratings (as well as box office earnings) in recent memory, "The Social Network" was, while haunting, truly refreshing and ultimately a triumph in all aspects, whether it be considering the acting, script, or directing. It was a fantastic movie that shouldn't just be among the best of the year; it's so much more important than that. It defines the entire social networking generation, and that is one hell of an accomplishment. Everyone can relate to it one way or another, and that makes it one of the must-see pictures of the year. In the end I thought it was really good, but I could not quite catch the words they were saying. The cast, mostly Jesse Eisenberg, talked really fast and was a little bit hard to understand what he was saying. Great movie!

Beautiful Darkness

"Ethan Wate used to think of Gaitlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gaitlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gaitlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful supernaturals for generations. A Gaitlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gaitlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened up to the dark side of Gaitlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South where nothing is as it seems."

The sequal to the thrilling book, Beautiful Creatures, Beautiful Darkness comes out this Tuesday! It is the second book in the Caster Chronicals. I cannot wait to buy this book right when it comes out. What will happen to Lena now? What will happen to Ethan and Lena's relationship while Lena is pulling away? Find out this Tuesday!

Brooke

Beautiful Creatures

"There were no surprises in Gaitlin County.

We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.

At least, that's what I thought.

Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.

There was a curse.

There was a girl.

And in the end, there was a grave."

"Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gaitlin has ever seen and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps, and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever."

"Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gaitlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them."

"In a town with no secrets, one secret could change everything."

Beautiful Creatures is a thrilling novel that takes place in the small Southern town of Gaitlin. Nothing new ever happens, and nothing is a secret. But when Lena Duchannes, the niece of the town's outcast, moves in, everything turns chaotic. The cliques turn extra mean. The women start riots. And this isn't including any of the magical problems that are related to Lena's sixteenth birthday.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good fictional book. It has twists, turns, and of course.... Romance!

I am going to have to rate this book three out of four black nail polishes. The only reason I says three instead of four is because the plot is sort of confusing to keep up with. But definitely worth reading!

Brooke

Book Blogger Hop: Oct. 8-11, 2010

Book Blogger Hop
Crazy For Books has a weekly blog post for book bloggers everywhere! You have one question you answer on your blog, put your blog in the directory, and get to know other blogs by visiting the blogs on the list and blogs that come to visit your site as well!

This week's question is:

What's your favorite beverage while reading or blogging, if any? Is it tea, coffee, water, a glass of wine, or something else?

My answer: I looooove drinking orange juice while blogging. It wakes me up and helps me push to get a post done. There are times I have a banana-strawberry smoothie or slushie next to me but mostly just orange juice. I am trying to get into drinking water, so on occasion I will have it next to me.

What do you drink while reading or blogging? Tell me!

P.S. Any blogs that come from the Blog Hop, I will add to my Blog Hop Buddy List!

Vampire Diaries--Season 2, Episode 5: "Kill or Be Killed"

*slow applause*

Another week and I'm hyped up from this week's episode of the lovely VD! Of course, I'm still getting over my weekly swoon of Damon and trying to get over my freakout when I saw the hottie human, Jeremy , is back! (No one did tell me where he went.) But let's recap this week's episode.

Okay, thing number one: Mystic Falls needs to call it quits with the fundrasier, there are just so many you can do! The fair and now this one for the park thingy? Mystic Falls needs to get a hobby, like scrapbooking or something. I'm tired of these fundraisers, Mystic, there's only so many fundrasiers one small town can have. But, on to the recap:

It starts off with "younger" Mason, whose at a bar and gets ready to leave. One of Mason's friends follows him out and accuses Mason of being with his girl. Obviously the guy is drunk but it doesn't stop him from trying to attack Mason. Mason defends himself and tells him to stop and that he wasn't doing anything with the guy's girl. The guy keeps coming at Mason and finally Mason hulks out and slams the guy against the concrete where he dies and that's where we see how Mason caught the curse. (Even seeing his eyes slant, which made me shiver a bit.)

It flashes to the present where Mason finishes his story to Tyler. He tells Tyler to uphold his part of the deal and hand him the moonstone. Tyler reveals one of his deceased father's hiding spots but plays dumb and tells Mason he thought the moonstone would be in there, when it wasn't. This is obviously going to come back on him.

We go to Elena and Jeremy, where Jeremy is filled on all the new happenings, like Tyler's werewolf lineage. Jeremy wants to help but Elena quickly declines. Stefan then shows up to see Elena before the fundraiser thingy. *eye roll* They exchange lovingly glances and comments like how if Stefan says something it means he loves Elena and vice versa for Elena. They plan to put up another fight in front of Caroline, so she keeps thinking it's over between Stefan and Elena.

Caroline sees her mom, the Sheriff, getting ready for the fundrasier picnic thing. Caroline makes comments to her mother about how she shouldn't act like such a good mom all of a sudden.
Stefan tries to create a truce with Mason, so no one will get hurt in the Falls, but Mason thinks otherwise. Stefan then flexes his muscles and tells Mason to back off because a full moon has already passed and there are two of them and only one of him. Once Mason leaves, Damon appears (which scared me almost to death). Damon whines about Stefan wanting to create peace between them and Mason.

Mason goes to the Sheriff and tells her the truth about the Salvatore brothers, that they are vampires. At first, the Sheriff doesn't believe him because of all the stuff Damon has doen for Mystic Falls but then comes around and tells Mason to prove it.

Caroline and Elena talk about Caroline's mom, but it shifts to Stefan and Elena's relationship. Elena plays her role well and Caroline eats it up. Damon then tries talking to Shreiff Forbes but she acts differently towards him, she says its just Caroline and walks off. Damon goes to Caroline and tells her to quick being so rude to her mother, while Stefan and Elena have their "fight". Caroline, again, eats it up while Damon isn't buying it one bit. Damon confronts Stefan about the "fight" while he sips at lemonade, which we soon find out was slipped with vervain. (Very sneaky, Mason! Very sneaky!)

The Sheriff and other deputees shoot Stefan and Damon with wooden bullets and inject them with vervain. Caroline hears whats going on and tells Elena. They go out and inspect the noise.

Mason leads the Sheriff to the Salvatores' dungeon where she plans on taking Stefan and Damon out. She makes Mason leave where he runs into Elena and Caroline. Mason finds out that Caroline is a vampire and threatens to snap Elena's neck. Caroline beats him up and leaves him unconscious.

Damon still tries to fight against the bullets and vervain while Stefan is still out cold. Sheriff tries to pull questions out of Damon, but he doesn't give anything up. Caroline and Elena make it to the entrance of the basement where Caroline is iffy on whether or not she should go down there and reveal herself to her mother. Elena leaves her there and goes into the basement herself where she shocks the Sheriff and deputees. Then it happened... Caroline comes down into the basement as a blur and takes out the two cops by drinking from one and knocking out the other. She hides in the shadows for a second but then comes into the light where she loses her vamp face and looks at her horrified mother. And, the most bad ass words were uttered in the whole Vampire Diaries seasons... "Hi, Mom." *big applause*

Stefan ragains consciousness and Damon tries to make Shreiff Forbes keep quiet about them but she refuses and say she rather be dead. Damon decides not to kill her though because she was his "friend". They decide to chain her in the dugeon until the vervain leaves her system so they can compel her to forget what she found out about the Salvatore brothers. She tells Damon to give her one thing and to keep Caroline away from her. Damon refuses but she says her daughter is gone, Caroline overhears this and runs off.

When Elena comes back from looking for Caroline, she sees Stefan looking at the packets of blood that Damon stores. He wants to do what Katherine did with vervain and build an immunity to the desire for blood. When Elena sees that he's serious, she walks away disappointed.

Elena catches up with Caroline who reveals that she is afraid to go home where Katherine is waiting to hear what Caroline has gathered. She asks what Katherine wants and Elena says that's the "million dollar question".

Damon and Elena discuss that Stefan should drink blood so he can get stronger. Elena finds Stefan and they both agree for a couple drops a day. Elena tells him she doesn't want him to do it by himself. SHe offers her blood, which he accepts and drinks from her without killing her.

Through all of this, Jeremy finds Tyler hanging out at the restaurant. He goes over to talk to him and to see if he's okay. Two girls come up to them and ask if Tyler's ready to go back to his house, Tyler invites Jeremy to come with them. The girls get drunk and come upon Jeremy's sketchbook which is filled with wolf sketches. Tyler takes Jeremy into his father's study where he confronts Jeremy as to what he knows. Jeremy reveals he knows what Tyler is. Tyler spills about the family curse and what Mason told him. He then brings up the moonstone and they wonder what it is used for. The two girls come in drunk and try to play hot potato with the moonstone. One of the girls runs up the stairs and try to get it away from Tyler. He wrestles with her for it but accidently makes her fall down the stairs. Luckily, she is fine after the three of them freak out.
When Mason comes home, Tyler confronts him and tells him he wants nothing to do with the curse. He gives the stone to Mason who looks relieved. (Hmm?)

We flash to Mason getting into a car where Katherine is sitting in the driver's seat. We flash back to the past where Mason kills the guy and we see Katherine coming out of nowhere and consoling him. She was really the one who told the guy that Mason was hitting on his girl. (Could have seen that coming.) She scolds him for messing with Damon and Stefan and to focus on getting that stone. Mason reveals the stone and the two kiss passionately. (Uh, gross!)

So, this episode was AH-mazing, including with the fact that a new episode won't be on for another two weeks! Guess we have to wait fellow VD fans!

Peace and Fangs,
Alisha

LAUREN CONRAD'S NEW BOOK: STYLE & SUGAR AND SPICE

I know that everyone watches MTV so with that being said I know you have seen or at least heard of the show The Hills. If you are like me you probably just heard of the show and seen a few commercials but you are really not a follower. Those of you how are fans have talked about it to people like me who do not watch the show, so either way we all know who Lauren {LC} Conrad is. But in the rear case you do not know who Lauren is here is a little bio about her and the show.

Lauren Katherine Conrad is an American television personality celebutante, actress, author and fashion designer. She is known for her starring role on the MTV reality series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and its spin-off series, The Hills, which at one point followed her personal and professional life as she pursued a career in the fashion industry.

I know most of you are wondering (like I was) about the author part. Well here’s the thing on June 16, 2009, Conrad released her first novel, L.A. Candy. Based on Conrad's personal life, L.A. Candy is a novel about a young woman who moves to Los Angeles and becomes the star of a reality TV show. Conrad's second book of the trilogy, Sweet Little Lies, was released on February 16, 2010.

That answers the question about the author part but why am I talking about this now if the books were realse a long time ago. Well, I tell you. The other day I was looking through Barnes & Noble’s web site for new upcoming books and happen to fall upon an interview with the author. Where Conrad talks about her new released book, Style, that is about her experiences in and her knowledge of the fashion industry. Style was release this week along with the third and final book of the L.A. Candy series Sugar and Spice on October 5, 2010. Conrad is writing a spinoff of the L.A. Candy series, which will follow the character Madison. Below I posted the link so you can see Lauren’s Barnes & Noble interview. check it out!

You Again Review

RATED:
PG: " For brief mild language and rude behavior,"

DIRECTOR:
Andy Flickman

WRITER:
Moe Jelline

RELEASE DATE:
SEPTEMBER 24, 2010

My Synopsis:
Let's face it, Marni (Kristen Bell) was not the popular kid in senior year. She was the only loser, only ugly-faced person, and only geek in the whole school. Marni was tormented Joanna (Odette Yustman), who made her life a living hell.

A few years later, Marni is successful woman, who is happy, and now VP of a Public Relations Agency. Marni is coming home for her brother, Will's (John Wolk), wedding. Until she finds out that her brother is marrying her high school nemesis, Joanna. Her brother sees Joanna as the perfect angel in his eyes, which is the exact opposite of what Marni sees.

All of this is compounded by the fact that the bride's wealthy Aunt Romona (Sigourney Weaver) flies into town and comes face to face with Marni's mother Gail (Jamie Lee Curtis), who it turns out has an old high school score to settle with Gail.

Now that they're about to become family, Marni and her mom do their best to let bygones be bygones. But old grudges die hard, and by the time the wedding bells chime, these old foes will already have some saucy stories to share with their grandchildren.

The claws are about to come out.

My Review:
I thought that this movie was funny, hilarious, and very cute. The plot is very original, but some of the parts were a little bit cheesy.
I thought the casting and the make up was great. Kristen Bell is a very pretty girl, and it couldn't have been easy to transform her into the unattractive high school geek that Marni was supposed to have been. Yet make-up artists and Bell's adoption of some less than pretty tics make you believe in the earlier version of Marni. Odette Yustman also does a good job as the pretty, popular girl whose mission in life is to make Marni miserable. Some of the movie's best moments come, though, as the result of the past and present rivalry between Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver. I'd be very surprised if the two of them had less than a ball doing their scenes together because it certainly shows on screen that way.
Not only was the movie great, the background music is very current. For example I know I heard Toxic by Britney Spears in one of the scenes.
Oh, and let's not forget legendary, Betty White. She is one of my favorite actors. She plays Grandma Bunny and is hilarious and silly.
I really enjoyed this movie. I would recommend this to ages 10+.

WANTED WEDNESDAYS: CRESCENDO

Hey guys, Alisha is hitting the books! So I just wanted to share my Wanted Wednesdays book with you. I have said that I love romance books about fallen angels so it should come of no surprise that the book I want is about just that. The beginning of this year I was at Barnes & Noble with my friend and saw a book cover that coat my eye immediately. The cover was of an angel falling from the heavens reaching up in despair wearing nothing else but black jeans. The feathers from his wings looked liked they were being torn off by the violent wind that hit him while he was falling. The cover sparkled and I do love thing that sparkle {Edward!}, so I bought the book with the unique name of HUSH, HUSH.

"Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those who have fallen -- and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life."

I loved the book because It was romantic, suspenseful, thrilling, with a little bit of mystery. It was and all around a great book and a good read for me. Becca Fitzpatrick the author did a great job blending the spiritual supernatural with situations (like when the girls are at Victoria Secret) that happen everyday. Fitzpatrick also mad it fun and not all doom and gloom like “we have to save the world” stuff, it was actually refreshing to see some humor with in the book. The main characters built up to their romance quit nicely with a hint of mischievous mystery and thrill that this reader really enjoyed.

Now on to my Wanted Wednesdays book. It is the sequel to HUSH, HUSH and it goes by the name of CRESCENDO. It is due out on October 19 {right on my brother’s birthday} and I hope it lives up to the expectations as the thrilling sequel of HUSH, HUSH. Fitzpatrick has her work cut of for her since the first book of her series was so good. I am hoping to go more in depth with the love story and back story of the characters with out losing the mystery and suspense I have come to expect. I guess that I will find out very soon. Check out HUSH, HUSH if it sounds like a good read to you I think you might like it.

"Nora should have know her life was far from perfect. Despite starting a relationship with her guardian angel, Patch (who, title aside, can be described anything but angelic), and surviving an attempt on her life, things are not looking up. Patch is starting to pull away and Nora can't figure out if it's for her best interest or if his interest has shifted to her arch-enemy Marcie Millar. Not to mention that Nora is haunted by images of her father and she becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened to him that night he left for Portland and never came home.

The farther Nora delves into the mystery of her father's death, the more she comes to question if her Nephilim blood line has something to do with it as well as why she seems to be in danger more than the average girl. Since Patch isn't answering her questions and seems to be standing in her way, she has to start finding the answers on her own. Relying too heavily on the fact that she has a guardian angel puts Nora at risk again and again. But can she really count on Patch or is he hiding secrets darker than she can even imagine?"

P.S.  I wrote this Wednesday and was twiking it so when I finally hit publish it was Thursday, sorry you guy.
