Wanted Wednesday: Night School by Mari Mancusi

Summary: Vampires, Slayers and...FAIRIES? Sunny and Rayne McDonald are about to get SCHOOLED.

After their parents' shocking revelation about their fae heritage and an attack on their lives, the McDonald twins find themselves on the run—forced to hide out at Riverdale Academy , a boarding school for vampire slayers, deep in the Swiss Alps. With no cells, no internet, and no way to contact their vampire boyfriends—the twins are on their own.

Being a vampire stuck in a school full of slayers isn't easy. Especially with no blood substitute stocked on campus. Soon Rayne finds herself succumbing to her bloodlust and losing control—especially around the arrogant, but devastatingly handsome Corbin Billingsworth the

Third—who isn't sure whether he wants to kiss her...or kill her.

But when Sunny starts acting strange, Rayne realizes Riverdale Academy may be hiding some deadly secrets of its own—leading to a showdown in Fairyland that may cost the twins their lives. Source

After reading Bad Blood, I am so excited to get back into the Blood Coven series! I missed being in Rayne's p

perspective and it was so awesome to go into Sunny's POV. I loved hearing about their boyfriends and the constant struggle Sunny has because she's a human with a powerful vampire and how Rayne's a vampire hunter plus a vampire herself!

I know Night School is already on shelves, but I am so ready to read it. I want to be caught up by time Blood Ties (August 2) comes out! From the reviews I heard of Night School, it's getting mixed responses. Some people love it while others miss the boyfriends and feel that the fae world seems a little too much like Disney's version of it. I guess I'll just have to judge for myself! I hope that this book really compliments the rest of the series!

Alisha

Stieg Larsson Wrote a Fourth Novel to the Millenium Series?

The Millennium series was supposed to be five books, but were cut short by Larsson's death in 2004. Family and friends have come forwarded saying that there is a partially complete fourth book by Larsson. Larsson has said that the fourth novels highlight's Lisbeth's Salander's twin sister, Camilla.

Eva Gabrielsson, Larsson's long-time partner, has said that she has the fourth manuscript and can finish it if she has the permission of Larsson's family. They don't seem to be as willing to though.

I will be looking over the news of this and see what will be happening, but for now, all we can look forward to is the American version of "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".

More updates to come!

Peace and Fangs,
Alisha

Demonglass

"Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.
That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.
Turns out, Sophie's a demon, one of the only two in the world- the other being her father. What's worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers.
But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They're demons too. Meaning someone is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they're using Archer to do it. But it's not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

Plot: The plot was great! It had twists, turns, and I could never guess the next thing to happen. The first had many issues, but this one had even more. I loved, the first, but I can't decide which one I like better. Unlike "Once in a Full Moon," this plot is not overused. One problem? I think this book has the worse cliffhanger ever!
Main Character: Like before, I still love Sophie. She's a determined girl who knows what she wants. Even if "it's" forbidden and can't have "it" *wink* *wink*
Cover: I like it how you see her as a normal girl, and then you see her as the fiery, but-kickin', demon she really is. It's the same as the first cover, but in the first, you see her reflection as the witch you think she is.
Overall Rating: Definitely a four, no second-guessing needed. I love the romance (there's even a huge twist in her situation within the first couple chapter), suspense, and action. The only thing is the stupid cliffhanger. You will definitely find yourself clicking the "next page" button on your nook, when there's nothing left.

Once in a Full Moon

"Beware of a kiss under the full moon. It will change your life forever.
Celeste Parker is used to hearing scary stories about werewolves- Legend's Run is famous for them. She's used to everything in the small town until Brandon Maddox moves to Legend's Run and Celeste finds herself immediately drawn to the handsome new student. But when, after an unnerving visit with a psychic, she encounters a pack of wolves and gorgeous, enigmatic Brandon, she must discover whether his transformation is more than a legend or just a trick of the shadows in the moonlight. Her best friends may never forgive her is she gives up her perfect boyfriend, Nash, for Brandon, who's from the wrong side of town. But she can't deny her attraction or the strong pull he has on her. Brandon may be Celeste's hero, or he may be the most dangerous creature she could encounter in the woods of Legend's Run. Psychic predictions, generations-old secrets, a town divided, and the possibility of falling in love with a hot and heroic werewolf are the perfect formula for what happens... once in a full moon."
Plot: The plot was very overused in my opinion. I have read this many times. Though, I did enjoy it, and that's why I bought it in the first place. I can read something lots of times. If you have no problem reading plots that you've read before many times, then you'll like it!
Main Character: I really liked Celeste. She is a volunteer, a writer, and a daydreamer. She actually reminded me of... well, me! The only thing about her is that she seemed to be sending mixed signals to Nash, and that bothered me.
Cover: I didn't care for the cover as much. I never really like it when they have a person on it, but I liked the font and the background.
Overall Rating: I liked it, but it was very overplayed and I've read lots of books about the same thing. I liked the characters, and I could picture it as me and my friends perfectly. Not to mention, I loved Brandon! I really can't decide if it should be a 2 or a 3 (sometimes I wish I could rate it in between...) But I think it will be a two. I recommend this, but not for those who are picky about what they read.

Music Monday: Release of Vices and Virtures

For Music Monday, I have again chosen Panic At the Disco! Today is the release of Vices and Virtures, their new album. I was a little hesistant to hear their new stuff because there were only two of the original members left, but I was going in with a open mind...so glad I did. I loved their first single from the CD, The Balled of Mona Lisa. If you haven't heard it yet, check it out here!

With the release of Vices and Virtues, the album has been trending Twitter all day and you can check out the whole album over at their Facebook.

I have listened to some of the songs on their album and have to say that some of them are pretty good. They seem like they're getting to their old P!ATD phase...I'm definitely not complaining. However, I'm not feeling the techno bits. Sometimes it works for them like Time to Dance, but other times it doesn't. Just give each song a chance and listen to it for 30 seconds. They have really great stuff!

Peace and Fangs,
Alisha

Bracelet: Beautiful Creature

So, with the permission of Alisha, I'm introducing a new thing. I have been making bracelets, and I'm selling them here on her blog. The first one I'm introducing is my Beautiful Creatures themed bracelet.

It's one of the bracelets that's harder to pick out why I used the colors I did. I liked the combination of colors and it made me think of the book. Like most of my bracelets so far, it's in a braided sort of style. So, I'm going to do this auction style with a starting price of $3. If you're interested just email me at bookworm88@charter.net and I'll go from there! I promise that they're good quality. I can wear these and have no problem, when more expensive jewelry breaks. And if there's any problems, feel free to let me know, and I'll fix it.

The Lost Saint

"The non-stop sequel to The Dark Divine delivers an even hotter romance and more thrilling action than Bree Despain's first novel. Grace Divine made the ultimate sacrifice to cure Daniel Kalbi. She gave her soul to the wolf to save him and lost her beloved mother. When Grace receives a haunting phone call from Jude, she knows what she must do. She must become a Hound of Heaven. Desperate to find Jude, Grace befriends Talbot- a newcomer to town who promises her that he can help her be a hero. But as the two grow closer, the wolf grows in Grace, and her relationship with Daniel becomes to crumble. Unaware of the dark path she is walking, Grace becomes prideful in her new abilities- not realizing that an old enemy as returned and a deadly trap is about to be sprung. Readers, ravenous for more Grace and Daniel, will be itching to sink their teeth into The Lost Saint."
The Lost Saint is the sequel to Bree Despain's "Dark Divine," and I love it twice as much! Grace struggles with the wolf inside her throughout the whole thing, and becomes a stronger person. Daniel is a completely different story in this book. As Grace is going through the most difficult time ever, Daniel keeps pulling away and seems to be hiding more and more secrets. Then there's Talbot... you can't help but love him.
As normal, I give this a 4/4 rating because I love this much more than the first... and I loved the first! Can't wait for the third one, which I think doesn't come out until December. Until then, I'll just have to keep reading books!

Review: Red Riding Hood

Synopsis: Young Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) feels torn between two men. She loves Peter, but her parents intend that she marry wealthy Henry. Valerie and Peter plan to run away together, but before they can put the plan into action, her sister is killed by a werewolf. The villagers call in Father Solomon (Gary Oldman), a famous monster hunter, to help, but when Solomon warns that the beast takes human form by day, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf is someone she loves. Source

Plot: Other than the Harry Potter movies, this is one of the few movies I've watched where I had not read the book. I was kind of upset at the book because it purposely didn't want to give the ending until the movie came out. I'm glad I saw just the movie though. Apparently, from my friends, the beginning was nothing like how the book was and some things were different. I was confused on some parts, like why everything had those little spikes on them. The movie was interesting though, you learned that someone in the village was the werewolf and much more. I was very impressed with Hardwicke with her use of the scenery and the actors were absolutely stunning. I was kind of disappointed in the climax and the ending. It was like an hour and half was spent with the villagers wondering who was the wolf and then at the end it's revealed who the wolf is and that's basically it. I wanted more action and more twists in the plot line.

Actors: Amanda Seyfried (Valerie)-I loved Amanda in here. She was just confused as I was on who was the werewolf because of one key trait and it seemed like EVERYONE around her had that same trait. She was on her defenses and still held her head up even when her village is against her. Amanda did a great job with Valerie and I'm glad she played the part.
Shiloh Fernandez (Peter)-Shiloh was great as his bad boy part. I loved him because he could be stern and scary, but at the same time, he was romantic and dreamy. However, he sometimes seemed like he was pissed off, even if he was looking at Valerie. I guess it's just his expression, but that's what scared me sometimes.

Poster: The poster is beautiful. I love how they made the poster stand out among the darkness. It also gives the movie a horrific tone to it.

Overall Rating: I give this movie a three out of four. It was good, but I wish that there was more action and less speculating. Hardwicke did a great job and the actors were great, so I would give this movie a try if you're considering going to see it.

Review: Beastly

Synopsis: Prone to mocking and humiliating "aggressively unattractive" classmates, Kyle zeroes in on Goth classmate Kendra, inviting her to the school's extravagant environmental bash. Kendra accepts, and, true to form, Kyle blows her off in a particularly savage fashion. She retaliates by casting a spell that physically transforms him into everything he despises. Enraged by his horrible and unrecognizable appearance he confronts Kendra and learns that the only solution to the curse is to find someone that will love him as he is -- a task he considers impossible. Repulsed by his appearance, Kyle's callous father banishes him to Brooklyn with a sympathetic housekeeper and blind tutor. As Kyle ponders how to overcome the curse and get his old life back, he chances upon a drug addict in the act of killing a threatening dealer. Seizing the opportunity, Kyle promises the addict freedom and safety for his daughter, Lindy, if she will consent to live in Kyle's Brooklyn home. Source

Plot: The movie was based off of the book by Alex Flinn. After reading the book, I found out that there was a movie. In my review, I kind of went on a rant when I saw the trailer. I'm still kind of in that rant mood. He was supposed to be a beast! Come on, a guy who looks like how Alex Pettyfer did in the movie in New York? Yeah, it'll draw heads, but not as much as how a true beast would. The movie is about how love is never ugly, but I feel like they tamed down Kyle's looks for the movie. And, the little rose tattoo on his arm, cute but cliche! However, it was good enough to make me cry and even "Aww", yes I "Aww"ed out loud, over the movie. It was a good movie and I'm glad I saw it.

Actors: Alex Pettyfer (Kyle)-Alex is on his way to becoming the new hottest thing. He was in "I Am Number Four", "Beastly", and a lot of MI fans want him to play Jace Wayland in the upcoming movies. I loved him in here and I can't wait to see what other projects her does.
Vanessa Hudgens (Lindy)-OK, so I like Vanessa, she's a pretty girl and does very well in her parts. However, the only reason I was iffy on her going into the movie was because her character had to be "average-looking" and had red hair. Vanessa did a great job though and made the movie seem genuine instead of cheesy.

Poster: I saw the poster days after I saw the movie. It is very beautiful and dark, which kind of undertones the themes of the movie/book. I like how Vanessa looks at Alex with love and affection. Plus, the phrase is a perfect fit.

Overall Rating: I give this movie a three out of four. I loved the acting and it had it's little quirks here and there, but I have to take away a nail polish when it comes to how Kyle should have looked.

Review: Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy #5) by Richelle Mead

Synopsis: Salvation has its price.

The words stunned Adrian for a moment, but he kept going. "You're lying. What you're describing is impossible. There's no way to save a Strigoi. When they're gone, they're gone. They're dead. Undead. Forever."

Robert's next words weren't directed at Adrian. They were spoken to me. "That which is dead doesn't always stay dead...."

After a long and heartbreaking journey to Dimitri’s birthplace in Siberia, Rose Hathaway has finally returned to St. Vladimir’s—and to her best friend, Lissa Dragomir. It's graduation, and the girls can’t wait for their real lives outside of the Academy’s cold iron gates to finally begin. But even with the intrigue and excitement of court life looming, Rose’s heart still aches for Dimitri. He's out there, somewhere.

She failed to kill him when she had the chance, and now her worst fears are about to come true. Dimitri has tasted her blood, and she knows in her heart that he is hunting her. And if Rose won't join him, he won't rest until he's silenced her...forever.

But Rose can't forget what she learned on her journey—whispers of a magic too impossible and terrifying to comprehend. A magic inextricably tied to Lissa that could hold the answer to all of Rose's prayers, but not without devastating consequences. Now Rose will have to decide what—and who—matters most to her. In the end, is true love really worth the price?

Fall in love with Rose and Dimitri all over again in Spirit Bound, the eagerly awaited fifth novel in Richelle Mead's enthralling Vampire Academy series. Source

Plot: I love the VA series and I was excited I finally got my hands on Spirit Bound. I have to say that this is my favorite book out of the series so far. Don't get me wrong, I loved the rest of the books. But, I will admit...I balled over this book. I was glad that the book had it's large amount of action like it always does, but there were so many plot twists and intense romance that I had some tears slip. This book had so many plot twists that I was confused on my feelings towards some of the characters. Like, for instance, Lissa. You do see her become stronger throughout the book, but that starts to hurt Rose. I was glad that Lissa was growing a backbone for herself, but it seemed like she was pushing the right people away and letting the wrong people in. I did, however, like the ending and can't wait to see what happens next.

Characters: Rose-I'll do just Rose since she was the lead character. As always, I love Rose. She reminds me of myself: outspoken, persistent, and...well, let's face it...nosy. Rose was the one that really caused my tears. She's so used to composing her emotions to become a guardian that when her fears are brought to life and her hopes are diminished, she doesn't know how to deal with it. She gets herself into enough terrible situations and more are coming for her.

Cover: Loved this cover! I'm guessing that it's Dimitri and Rose, but I was thinking that Rose's hair was more of a chocolate color and Dimitri's hair was longer. But, then again, it's just a cover, so I won't criticize every little thing. This cover is beautiful though, just like all the rest.

Overall Rating: I give this book a four out of four. If you can make me cry over writing on a page, you get a four in my book. I'm so excited for the last book, Last Sacrifice. Spirit Bound has gotten me jazzed up for what's coming and I'm truly hoping that some more raw lovin' goes down!

Review: Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick

Synopsis: For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her...until Patch comes along.
With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment, but after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is far more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life. Source

Plot: I finally was able to get my hands on this book and I am so glad I did. Hush, Hush is a book that surrounds the theme of fallen angels. I thought that this was a very well thought out perspective of fallen angels. Fitzpatrick did an amazing job with not just making the book about fallen angels, but about romance and revenge. I was a little sketchy when I started reading and Nora meets Patch in a science class (Whose there? Twilight.) But, as I read, it seemed like the class was an underlying theme that helped the characters develop around one another. You saw that Vee is outspoken, Patch is a pervertic jerk, and Nora wanted to go to college just from that class. But, as I read, other than seeing that the two characters meet in science class, this book was nowhere near Twilight.

Characters: Nora-She made a whole new spin on the heroin. She was confused on what and what not to do. She wanted to be with Patch, but there was something about him that scared her. She was such a brave and defining character though. I can grow to love her and she develops throughout the story to open her mind and decide whose good for her and whose not.
Patch-I'm not going to lie. I thought Patch was an ass to me. I was interested and intrigued when he was in the scenes and I was praying he would show up soon, but he bothered me. Some things he would say would make my mouth drop. Even after I learned about him, he still wasn't right with me. He never had a genuine smile, I wanted to reach in the book and smack him and tell him to smile for Nora. I did start to like him though, but I wish he would just show a millimeter more emotion. Please, Patch?

Cover: You know I have to mention the cover. It is absolutely stunning. I love the color scheme of the book because it kind of shows you the outlook of a fallen angels world, full of gray clouds. I like how you see Patch kind of being thrown to Earth and his wings are tattered. Amazing cover...love it!

Overall Rating: I give this book a four out of four. It was a new take on fallen angels that I loved and was very raw for a YA, but I liked it! I was impressed with Fitzpatrick, she is a new favorite of mine and has created such an originial series that I'm craving for more.

Review: and Falling, Fly (Harrowing #1) by Skyler White

Synopsis: An edgy, erotic blend of fantasy and romance-from a debut author whose star is on the rise.

In a dark and seedy underground of burned-out rock stars and angels- turned-vampires, a revolutionary neuroscientist and a fallen angel must pit medicine against mythology in an attempt to erase their tortured pasts...but at what cost?

Olivia, vampire and fallen angel of desire, is hopeless...and damned. Since the fall from Eden, she has hungered for love, but fed only on desire. Dominic O'Shaughnessy is a neuroscientist plagued by impossible visions. When his research and her despair collide at L'OtelMathillide- a subterranean hell of beauty, demons, and dreams-rationalist and angel unite in a clash of desire and damnation that threatens to destroy them both. Source

Review
Plot: I do love me a good fallen angel book. This one is definitely a different take on fallen angels. I was confused with how Olivia was a fallen angel as well as a vampire. I didn't understand how both affected each other. They also never really went into deep details into the angels fell. They give just a little insight throughout the book, but nothing very deep. Along with the lack of detail or why some things were the way they were, the romance was very....gradual. And, no, not gradual as in, they kissed on the fifth date. Gradual as in they didn't even meet until around page 100. To me, that's too long for a romance to beign, let alone the two main characters meet! I had to drag myself to keep on reading. I

swear, if they didn't mention that there was any romance in here, I would have closed the book at page 50. The writing was written elegantly and I loved how White described everything, but I didn't like how things were described for two pages.

Characters: Olivia-She was a very strong and brave character. She was used to the life she had, but she wanted more. I loved how she was able to adapt to her growing love for Dominic. Olivia was definitely a character I would like to see more of.
Dominic-I loved reading Dominic's parts actually. He was so determined to believe everything wasn't true, including who he really was. He was very intelligent and I loved his growing feelings for Olivia as well.

Cover: The cover is nicely done. I'm glad they made the girl actually look like Olivia. The dark hair and they even had one of the outfits she wore in the book. However, I don't understand the sword. There wasn't really any sword or even that much fighting in the book, so I was a little confused.

Overall Rating: I will give this book a three out of four. The book was very well written and the characters developed throughout the book, but sometimes I would have to reread some passages because of the writing. I will say that if you are a fan of Anne Rice, read this book. It has much more than just romance and gives a new take on fallen angels.

Red Riding Hood

"The body of a young girl is discovered in a field of wheat. Her flesh mutilated by telltale claw marks. The Wolf has broken the peace. When Valerie learns that her sister has been killed by the legendary creature, she finds herself at the center of a dark mystery, one that has plagued her village for generations. It is revealed that the werewolf lives among them, and everyone in the village immediately becomes a suspect. Could her secret love Peter be behind the attacks on her town? Is it her betrothed, Henry? Or someone even closer to her? As the men in the village hunt for the beast, Valerie turns to her grandmother for help. She gives Valerie a handmade red riding cloak, and guides her through the web of lies and deception that has held her town together for so long. Will Valerie discover the werewolf's identity before the town is ripped apart?"

When you saw the title, did you think I was talking about the new movie? Nope! It's actually the book that was made with it. It can get really confusing, but when you understand everything, it's not so difficult. This book is a new take on the old story, Red Riding Hood. It's hard to explain so... bear with me. Basically, when Catherine Hardwicke got this story idea, she told her friend, Sarah Blakley-Cartwright, to write a story to fully introduce the characters' stories and personalities that she can't fit in the movie. So, long story short, you should read this before you see the movie! Only downside? It doesn't include the ending! It was made so you would have to see the movie to know the ending. Some, don't like it, but I think it keeps me interested. My advice? Read this book before the movie! It's a pretty short read and it helps you better understand and probably has "deleted scenes" they couldn't fit into the movie. Love the people, love the story, and it keeps you wondering "who the heck is the wolf???"
So, as for rating,it's a definite 4/4, and I'll let you know later my thoughts on the movie!

Seven Facts Award

BNR has recieved it's third award! I have to thank the lovely Sally over Bibrary Slut (love the name!). So, the name of this award says it all....seven facts about myself. This may take me a bit because popularity does that to a person....

1. I speak three languages: Norwegian, German, and English. Jeg heter Alisha. Ich heisse Alisha. My name is Alisha.
2. I can not stand Band Aids, temporary tattooes, and stickers....I don't know why....just do.
3. I love to write and have a book series in mind, but it never comes out right on paper.
4. I love pranking, watching pranks, and doing little funny things like flash mobs.
5. My favorite singers are Michael Buble and P!nk. I love Michael's voice and his remakes of Sinatra. And, P!nk has a way with words!
6. There are a lot of people I would love to meet, but I would love to meet Nick Braun.
7. Lastly, I think that Taco Bell is one of the most amazing restaurants!

Adrian Phoenix Q&A and Etched in Bone Giveaway

Hi, everybody! I had the pleasure to interview Adrian Phoenix, the author of the Maker's Song series and the Black Dust Mambo series:

Tell us a quick synopsis about Etched in Bone.

Adrian: You bet! Determined to face the Fallen and the world on his own terms, Dante hopes to piece together his shattered past and claim his future, with FBI agent Heather Wallace at his side. But in Heather’s human family awaits an unexpected enemy, one who could force Dante to choose his darkest destiny—as the Great Destroyer . . .

Son of a fallen angel. Forged in vampire’s blood. Sworn to a mortal woman. If Dante falls, the world falls with him. Three legacies etched in bone. One passion sworn in blood.

What did you like most about writing EiB?
Adrian: With each book in the series, I love exploring Dante’s world, his relationships with those closest to him—especially his deepening relationship with Heather, and plumbing his dark and savage past. I think one of my favorite scenes was the first love scene in the book between Heather and Dante in that it showed the downside of having a nightkind lover. LOL.

How many books will there be in the Maker's Song series?
Adrian: I don’t have a set number planned. This is a complex world full of intriguing and fun characters and I hope to continue with it for a long time.

The covers are beautiful! Were there any other kind of covers in talk for the series or Etched in Bone?
Adrian: The covers are beautiful! The artist, Craig White, does an amazing job! My editor at Pocket always asks for my input on the covers—which I appreciate very much—but ultimately, the final decision on the covers goes to the publisher.

What other projects do you have going on?
Adrian: The second book in my Hoodoo series, Black Heart Loa, will be released the end of June and I’m currently working on book five of The Maker’s Song, On Midnight Wings. I’m also mulling over some new projects as well, now that I’m finally writing fulltime.

Summer's coming up soon! Do you have anything planned?
Adrian: Y’know, I really don’t at the moment. I’d like to get over to the coast and visit friends and I have a close friend in British Columbia I’d love to go visit too. Maybe that’s what I’ll do! (Besides write, that is. LOL.)

What are some things we can look forward to in Etched in Bone?
Adrian: Here’s a sneak peak at the first two chapters: http://adrianphoenix.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/EIBsample4.pdf

What is the Black Dust Mambo series about?
Adrian: Black Dust Mambo is the first book in the Hoodoo series and it’s about a fiery Cajun hoodoo apprentice named Kallie Rivière down in the Louisiana bayous. It’s full of magic and mystery and hard-bodied nomads. It’s a bit lighter than The Maker’s Song and more humorous, but has some very dark moment as well. One of my favorite scenes is the wet boxers contest at the May Madness Carnival (for magic users) and the men participating in it. That scene was a blast to write!

I saw that you have spells on your site. Do you have a favorite?
Adrian: I imagined that Kallie and her hoodoo aunt were the ones that page belongs to, so I know Kallie’s would be any of the love potions, but she’s used a very handy “shrivel package” trick (spell) on men who just didn’t understand the words: “Ain’t interested.”

What can fans look forward to seeing from you soon?
Adrian: Black Heart Loa comes out the end of June, then On Midnight Wings will follow, but I don’t have a publication date for that one yet. I’m hoping for late December.

Thanks so much for having me! It’s always a pleasure to hang out with you here.
