Crossed (Matched #2) by Ally Condie

Title: Crossed
Author: Ally Condie
Series: Matched
Format: Hardcover
Release Date: November 1, 2011
Genre(s): Fantasy, Romance, YA, Adventure

Rules Are Different Outside The Society

Chasing down an uncertain future, Cassia makes her way to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky--taken by the Society to his sure death--only to find that he has escaped into the majestic, but treacherous, canyons. On this wild frontier are glimmers of a different life and the enthralling promise of a rebellion. But even as Cassia sacrifices every thing to reunite with Ky, ingenious surprises from Xander may change the game once again.
Narrated from both Cassia's and Ky's point of view, this hotly anticipated sequel to Matched will take them both to the edge of Society, where nothing is as expected and crosses and double crosses make their path more twisted than ever.

Plot: After Ky is taken away from her, Cassia ventures off to find him on her own. This book is in the point of view of both Ky and Cassia throughout the whole story. It seems as though right when Ky leaves somewhere, Cassia arrives, leaving her one step behind. This is very frustrating for both her and the reader. Throughout this book, it seems as though all they are doing is running. Running from the Society, running from the Enemy, and running for their lives. Only death awaits them if they are caught.

Characters: Cassia has always been a strong girl. A lot of the rebels and other kids looked down on her because she was raised in the society and therefor spoiled and weak. But that isn't the case. She is willing to do anything to find Ky and to save everyone by joining the rebels. She would go through any struggle or any challenge.
Ky is a strong character too. But in this book he seems more strong and less sensitive. Don't get me wrong- he wasn't very sensitive in Matched either. But in Crossed, it seems as though all his trials have made him colder. Though, that doesn't mean he loves Cassia any less. But in the end, you have to decide one thing. Is Ky really worth it?

Cover: I have always liked these covers. That's one of the main reasons I picked up the first one. I loved her green dress! But as the series progressed, I understood why she was in a bubble before. It wasn't for some cool cover- it was to show that she was trapped. Now in Crossed, she is breaking out of that bubble, slowly.

Closing Thoughts: All in all I like the plot line of all of this but in truth, it was really boring to read. The reason I'm giving it only two nail polish bottles was because it was so long and draw out and boring. It seemed like the only thing they were doing the whole time was running... and running... and yet more running. The only twists were at the end and to be honest they weren't that big of a surprise to me. I'm planning on reading the next one, but only in hopes that it was better than this. It sounds like the next one is worth reading because it isn't about running. Plus, there should be more romance i the next one, hopefully making up for the lack thereof in this one. A good read- especially if you want to continue on to the third- but it's pretty boring. Not a page turner.

Super Song Sundays: Skylar Grey

Hey everyone! I'm still trying to catch up with all my reviews and reading and whatnot, but I did find a new singer that I love:
Skylar Grey

Skylar Grey (also known as Holly Brook Hafermann or Holly Brook) is an artist that I found a few weeks back so I don't know much about her, but she is amazing so far. She's new, but has a very different style of music than most of what is coming out onto the radio right now.

Skylar started out going by the name Holly Brook and started signing on with bands such as Linkin Park, Fort Minor, and many others. But she was mostly in the background as a small voice or as the writer. She was never the star and wasn't put in the spotlight.

In 2011 she changed her name to Skylar Grey and started making more of a name for herself. Slowly, but surely, she started getting more opportunities to sing. The first song she really wrote on her own was "Love the Way You Lie." Bet you didn't know that! The popular song on the radio by Eminem and Rhianna is actually written by this talented artist.
In my opinion it's way better and sounds much prettier. I love how her music sounds real rather than auto tuned and fake. While I love the song "Call Me Maybe," it isn't the same. It's fun to dance to or sing along with, but it's fake.

My favorite song of Skylar Grey's is a song called "Invisible." It's about how no matter what she does, she always feels invisible. A lot of it I can actually relate to and it is a really powerful song. It's something I think a lot of people can relate to at some point in their lives. The songs a little sad though, so keep that in mind when you watch the video. It's good but kinda sad.
Skylar Grey may not be the next big thing and she may not be the most mainstream artist, but her voice is beautiful and her songs are really powerful. You all should look her up on iTunes or even YouTube. She is amazing and one of my new favorite artists.

Beautiful Chaos (Caster Chronicles #3) by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Title: Beautiful Chaos
Author: Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Series: Caster Chronicles
Format: Hardcover
Release Date: October 18, 2011
Genre(s): Fantasy, Romance, YA

Ethan Wate thought he was getting used to the strange, impossible events happening in Gatlin, his small Southern town. But now that Ethan and Lena have returned home, strange and impossible have taken on new meanings. Swarms of locusts, record-breaking heat, and devastating storms ravage Gatlin as Ethan and Lena struggle to understand the impact of Lena's Claiming. Even Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals is affected - and their abilities begin to dangerously misfire. As time passes, one question becomes clear: What - or who - will need to be sacrificed to save Gatlin?
For Ethan, the chaos is a frightening but welcome distraction. He's being haunted in his dreams again, but this time it isn't by Lena - and whatever is haunting him is following him out of his dreams and into his everyday life. Even worse, Ethan is gradually losing pieces of himself - forgetting names, phone numbers, even memories. He doesn't know why, and most days he's too afraid to ask.
Sometimes there isn't just one answer or one choice. Sometimes there's no going back. And this time there won't be a happy ending.

Plot: Ever since the first book came out, this has always been a complex series. That's one thing I love about it! It's complicated and makes you think. In this last one, Ethan is starting to change, along with his whole life. His best friend is an incubus (kind of like a vampire) his girlfriend is half a dark cast, half light, and Amma- the woman who raised him- wont tell him anything. Gatlin is changing along with everyone else and there are lots of new bad guys. It's confusing, but if you can keep up, it's amazing.

Characters: I always forget that it's Ethan that's the main character and not Lena as well. They are both so connected at all times that they seem like one person! I love them! They are one of my all time favorite relationships. Their love is so sweet and everything is so unconditional about them. But they also have their silly jealous fights so it makes them seem real. I also love Link and Ridley. Link can be annoying since he thinks he's "all that" but his heart is honestly in the right place. Ridley is a BA ex-siren who believes she still can use her siren powers to control humans. I love her. Period.

Cover: It's basically the same as the first two, just yellow. Nothing too special, but I like it. I love the font and it really goes with the story well in my opinion.

Closing Thoughts: This series is now at the top of my favorite list. I love (LOVE) the relationship between Ethan and Lena. The plot has amazing twists and though it's about casters and incubuses (like witches and vampires) it's a very unique read. It's almost impossible to predict what will happen. Although, you will absolutely hate the ending. I mean... I can't even describe how big of a cliff-hanger that was. But it's worth reading for sure!
